Every Star Fox Character

A complete guide to every recurring Star Fox character — pilots, villains, and supporting cast — with biography, species, role, voice actors, and game appearances. From Fox McCloud and Andross to fan-favorites Krystal and Wolf O'Donnell, every Star Fox character that has appeared more than once is documented here.

The Star Fox Team

Fox McCloud

Species: Red fox · Role: Star Fox squadron leader · Ship: Arwing
The protagonist of every Star Fox game. Son of James McCloud, founding member of the original Star Fox team who was killed by Andross at Venom. Fox took over leadership after his father's death and has been the series' constant since 1993. In Star Fox 2026, Fox is depicted as taller and more militarized, reflecting his maturity across nearly 30 in-universe years of conflict.

Falco Lombardi

Species: Pheasant (avian) · Role: Ace pilot · Ship: Arwing
The team's hot-shot pilot, known for sarcasm, perfectionism, and a habit of leaving the team between missions. Falco appears in every mainline Star Fox game except Star Fox Adventures, where his absence is a plot point. His "I'm Falco. Sorry to keep you waiting" line in Star Fox 64 is one of the most-quoted moments in the series.

Slippy Toad

Species: Toad · Role: Engineer / mechanic · Ship: Arwing
The team's engineer and most frequent rescue target. Slippy designs the Arwings and provides boss shield-meter readouts. Often played for comic relief, but Star Fox 2026 redesigns him with more proportionate features and a serious tech-officer vibe.

Peppy Hare

Species: Hare · Role: Veteran pilot, mission advisor · Ship: Arwing
The series' oldest team member and the source of two of gaming's most famous lines: "Do a barrel roll!" and "Use the boost to get through!" A founding member of the original Star Fox team alongside James McCloud. By Star Fox Command, Peppy has retired to become a Cornerian Defense Force general.

Krystal

Species: Cerinian fox · Role: Telepath, pilot · Debut: Star Fox Adventures (2002)
A blue-furred vixen with telepathic powers, originally the protagonist of Rare's cancelled Dinosaur Planet before that game was reskinned as Star Fox Adventures. Krystal joins the Star Fox team in Adventures, becomes a romantic interest for Fox in Assault, leaves for Star Wolf in Command, and does not appear in Star Fox 2026 (the Switch 2 remake's campaign predates her in series chronology).

ROB 64

Species: Robot · Role: Great Fox flight computer
The mothership AI. Provides bombs, ring drops, and "Mission Complete" calls. ROB has appeared in every mainline Star Fox game and is one of the few characters who has never had a story arc — by design.

The Star Wolf Team

Wolf O'Donnell

Species: Wolf · Role: Star Wolf leader · Ship: Wolfen
Fox's mirror-image rival. Leads the mercenary team Star Wolf, originally hired by Andross. Wolf debuted in Star Fox 64 and has appeared in every Star Fox game since (except Adventures). His voice ranges from gruff veteran (Assault) to hammy villain (Zero).

Leon Powalski

Species: Chameleon · Role: Star Wolf sniper
The unsettling member of Star Wolf — a torture-curious chameleon who specializes in stealth. Falco's primary rival within the wing-vs-wing dynamic.

Panther Caroso

Species: Panther · Role: Star Wolf newcomer (debuted in Assault)
Replaced Pigma and Andrew on the Star Wolf roster from Assault onward. A romantic schemer who pursues Krystal.

Pigma Dengar

Species: Boar · Role: Original Star Wolf member, traitor
A founding Star Wolf pilot who, in series backstory, betrayed James McCloud at Venom. Eventually corrupted by Aparoid technology in Star Fox Assault.

Antagonists

Andross

Species: Macaque (ape) · Role: Series antagonist · Final boss: SF1, SF64, SF2026
The defining Star Fox villain — a brilliant scientist exiled to Venom who declared war on the Lylat system. In the 1993 Star Fox he's a faceless invader; in Star Fox 64 he's recontextualized as the killer of James McCloud and the architect of Fox's personal vendetta. Star Fox 2026 redesigns Andross's final boss form from a low-poly floating head into a fully modeled biomechanical horror.

Aparoid Queen

Species: Insectoid hive-mind · Final boss of Assault
The hive-mind antagonist of Star Fox Assault. Appears only in that game, but the Aparoid arc is one of the more memorable narrative chapters in the series.

Andrew Oikonny

Species: Macaque · Role: Andross's nephew, recurring minor villain
Andross's nephew and the only character to appear in the most Star Fox games while never having a meaningful arc. Used as a rebel leader in Assault and Starlink.

Cornerian Defense Force

General Pepper

Species: Hound · Role: Head of Cornerian Defense Force
The man who hires Star Fox at the start of every campaign. Pepper survives every mainline game and has had the most consistent voice direction in the series.

Bill Grey

Species: Hound · Role: Cornerian pilot, Fox's friend
A side ally introduced in Star Fox 64's Katina mission. Returns in Star Fox 64 3D and Star Fox 2026.

Katt Monroe

Species: Cat · Role: Falco's pilot friend
A pink-furred ace pilot who appears as an ally in Star Fox 64 and Command, with implied romantic history with Falco.
